The Image of Pain - Draztic
November 27, 2008 | Author: Rhydian H.M.
New Chicago rapper Draztic brings us his debut album “The Image Of Pain”. The album title encapsulates pain; however Draztic expresses a range of feelings aside from that, such as love and anger.
Draztic aims to illustrate the affects if inner-city life in his hometown Chicago, such as with “Gimmie Watcha Got” themed around a rubbery or in “The Way I Feel”, he gives one of the many commentaries on the street life, expressing the pain of growing up.
The album features funky beats, both old school and new school, and also fantastic word play from Draztic. This is most exemplified by the superb track “Without U”, as Draztic delivers great lyrical flow over a simple steady rhythm about what his strives for in life, rapping “For every step I’m movin’, and everything I’m doin’, I put my heart into my vision and I keep improving” and “I spread love to my peeps til’ the day I’m dying”.
In “I Damage The Mic”, featuring an old school rhythm and scratches from producer Ijazz, Draztic aims to describe his distinct intellect and skill, “MCs wanna intellectualize, but they fail to be a genius”, “I got fresh lyrics to stay every time I rhyme” and “Nothing’s fair, it’s just in a matter of how you balance it; anybody with an ear can hear I am talented”.
“Whoa!”, with samba styled party melody, builds a story of guy pursuing a girl at a party, before a dramatic shooting incident takes place as he “Tried to show off, but didn’t know the price of course”. Draztic warns of the unpredictability of life “Be careful what you wish for, no time to play and before you see tomorrow you will face today” before describing the incident “A bloody victim’s on the floor and he’s not breathing” and “A night of fun cut short when the guns erupt”.
Another highlight is “A Beautiful Thing”, with more old school rhythm, Draztic looks back on his rough background, rapping “I seen too many things to dream dreams” and “I’m from the blocks where the wars is rough”. He demonstrates his spiritual appreciation with “I see God without the aid of the bible” and “As my life past before, my eyes witnessed the karma”.
“The Grown Folks”, is worth a mention as it brings a different mood, with a light smooth melody for the girls, as Draztic raps about his love for a girl.
“The Image Of Pain” was released on October 28 by Jake Records, launching Draztic’s new rhymes and excellent lyrics into the mainstream for what should be a long time to come.
