Show Out - Unk

DJ Unk’s new hit “2 Step,” I mean “Walk It Out,” naw, I mean “Show Out” is sure to have the teenie-boppers break out their video cams and put themselves on YouTube.
The truth is, Unk has a formula that works. His beats make you want to dance. It’s upbeat snap-music, how could it lose? And releasing the song before the video has created some strong YouTube buzz and has kids creating their own version of the Show Out.
And, as usual, their are also haters giving it to Unk. Some claim his music is garbage, others say all his songs are the same. Whatever the beef, it seems that a lot of the older generation of hip hop heads are the ones who are primarily beefing with the latest fad of bubble-gum-snap-dance-music. And I’ll admit to getting on that bandwagon at one point also (though it did not stop me from 2 steppin and Crankin’ that Soulja Boy). But this is just the evolution of music.
Of course hip hop is always going to be the art form of the streets and another chapter in the African American influence over mainstream pop music. But every time art starts to evolve there are the conservatives who like things just the way they are.
But hip hop needs a change, it’s become so dependent on the thug persona; it’s taken the fun out of hip hop. Not mention it’s hard to actually dance to a lot of the gansta rap that comes out these days (you can always just hop around and look thugish, it works but lacks actual “dancing”). People like Soulja Boy and Unk are bringing in a new wave of hip hop, and it’s not all about selling crack and shooting guns. I can appreciate that.
Unk still needs to switch it up a bit more on the next track, but I can’t wait for the video.
