“Right Round” is southern rapper Flo Rida’s lead single from his upcoming sophomore album “R.O.O.T.S”, due to be released on April 7.
Flo Rida is keen to follow up the sensation of “Low” from his debut album “Mail on Sunday” (2008), and with the fine input from Mr. Luke’s production, “Right Round” delivers a catchy beat interestingly sampled from Dead or Alive’s classic “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)”, which also inspires a hook or two. It’s a captivating hybrid of pop and hip hop and is boosted by vocals from guest Ke$ha.
In the lyrics, Flo Rida describes a night of generous spending and losing restraint under the spell of a seemingly irresistible pole dancer. With the party vibe dazzling, Flo Rida goes from a rapid fire flow on the verses to a drowsy cadence on the chorus, where Ke$ha joins in.
Flo Rida drops several hooks, notably “From the top of the pole, I watch her go down; she got me throwin’ my money around”, while Ke$ha slides in with the Dead or Alive adaptation “You spin my head right round, right round; when you go down, when you go down down”.
In “Right Round”, Flo Rida combines the original classic with a lively new twist and makes the two blend together into a captivating verbal performance worthy of becoming another single worth listening to.
“Right Round” was released on iTunes [listen here] on February 1 and has reached No. 22 on the U.S Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart. Given this first taste from “R.O.O.T.S.” - an acronym for “Routes Of Overcoming The Struggle” - the next couple of months should supply plenty of excitement in the clubs.
