Prom Queen - Lil Wayne

“Prom Queen” is rapper/auto-tune singer and reincarnated rocker Lil Wayne’s leading single from his latest album, “Rebirth”, which is due to be released on April 7.
Lil Wayne has used a lot of Auto-Tune technology in recent releases, but he has taken another step further with a new rock album, from which “Prom Queen” resonates into your ears with a prominent rock based percussion and electric guitar sound from producers Infamous and Drew Correa.
Lil Wayne’s style in this release incorporates his auto-tune vocals as he tells a story with passion. Lil Wayne narrates about a girl taking off for college and leaving behind a guy that wanted to be with her. And even though she met a succession of guys over the next couple of years. they were never right for her and the relationships always ended in tears. Lil Wayne rhymes his summary in the hook:
“She had it all figured out, but she left me with a broken heart;
F***ed around and turned me down, cuz she didn’t think I could play the part;
But now the prom queen, the prom queen, is crying sittin’ outside of my door;
She never know how, how everything could turn around.”
Surprisingly, Lil Wayne adequately incorporates his vocals with the rock style in “Prom Queen”, and his narrative lyrics and rhyming work skillfully.
“Prom Queen” was released on iTunes on January 28 (check it out here), giving you the first taste of the Lil Wayne’s attack on another genre. After checking out “Prom Queen”, do you think he can cut it?
