Marco Polo - Bow Wow (feat. Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em)
August 5, 2008 | Author: John Paz
Marco Polo, a track from Bow Wow’s new album Pedigree is another soon-to-be summer snap sensation. Soulja Boy proves yet again he can produce best selling beats that at times overshadows the lyrics (particularly Bow Wow’s). The callbo seemed inevitable and will no doubt have all the Millennial school kids buzzing with the gansta peek-a-boo new dance move, which leaves much to be desired.
Bow Wow’s verse is like a target for hip hop purists to point to as “example A” to fuel the argument that the latest generation of hip hop is shallow and over-commercialized (not like everything else in our culture). And just in case you forgot, Bow Wow still has his Black Card. It still is taking some getting used to, listening to Bow Wow use swear words is like coming back home to visit and your little brother has picked up cursing, it almost makes you want to tell on him.
Soulja Boy’s verse is a bit more difficult to turn a nose up to. Granted there isn’t any message really, but his word play is far more amusing than the lead artist on the song. He almost laughs directly at the “old timers” with his reference to outdated LAN internet service. Even though this is clearly a step above the lyrical quality of “Crank That,” anyone who listens will know that isn’t really saying much.
Even with two simplistic verses over a chorus of two words, Soulja Boy’s production still makes this one worthy of a download.
