King – T.I.

January 28, 2009 | Author: Rhydian H.M.

“King” is T.I’s fourth album, released in 2006, coinciding with his acting debut in ATL and packed full of singles that entered the charts. It features several guests including Young Jeezy, Young Buck, Pharrell, Common and UGK among others.

Following a combination of poor promotion and mixed success for previous albums “I’m Serious (2001)”, “Trap Muzik” (2003) and “Urban Legend” (2004), “King” is a defining album in T.I’s career, backed by a weight of production from Just Blaze, Pharrell and DJ Troop among others. It sold over 500,000 copies in its first week and debuted at No.1 on the U.S Billboard 200 chart.

The smash hit and crest of the album, “What You Know”, produced by DJ Tromp with resounding synths and T.I’s litany of shout outs and taunts, went Platinum in its first month. The following single, “Why You Wanna” also stands out as T.I. puts on the bravado while playing the love machine and sampling a keyboard chord from Crystal Waters’ “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)”.

T.I’s “King” easily highlights that he’s back and still on top of his game, as the first track “King Back” suggests, announcing his royal status with horns and trumpets courtesy of Just Blaze, while “Front Back” and “Top Back” are also worthy of a mention. “King” is a milestone album for T.I. that you can check out here.
