“It’s A New Day” is Black Eyed Peas front man Will.I.Am’s third song in support of new President Barack Obama, following “Yes We Can” and “We Are The Ones”, released during the then Senator Obama’s Presidential campaign. As with the previous two releases, the song is released inseparably from the music video, with Will.I.Am providing a collage of shots of President Obama, campaign speech scenes, celebrations and number video clips from celebrities.
“It’s A New Day” was written to celebrate the election of President Obama, as stated by Will.I.Am “This was inspired by America. It’s about Obama winning, and really paying tribute to those people who are responsible for that happening, and that’s the American people.”
In “It’s A New Day”, Will.I.Am, resonates about the long fight for such a day “I’ve been fighting for tomorrow, all my life” and the realization of a dream “Cause the dreams that I’ve been dreaming, have finally came true”. Will.I.Am continues on this theme, citing previous leaders and activists from American history “Channeling Harriet Tubman, Kennedy, Lincoln, and King”.
“Will.I.Am” sings of this celebration being “for fathers, our brothers, our friends who fought for freedom” and appeals for everyone to come together “It’s time for unity, for us and we, that’s you and me together” (Will you be coming together and celebrating with this song?).
“It’s A New Day” is clearly a song with a message, a very positive one of celebration and encouraging the beginning of positive change, as Will.I.Am booms the mantra “It’s a new day” throughout.
“It’s A New Day” was released on November 4 and judging by the impact of “Yes We Can” and “We Are The Ones” as well as being in the wake of the recent election results, it’s sure to be listened to many times around the world (you can listen here).
