“iSouljaBoyTellEm” is teenager rapper Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em’s second studio album, following his debut LP Souljaboytellem.com (2007). This time around, Soulja Boy invites a number of guests to his party, including Sean Kingston, Gucci Mane and Shawty Lo amongst others.
Soulja Boy sends you up and down the beat meter on his latest album, providing some high energy party tracks, as well as some mellow take-a-seat vibes for other tracks.
The album’s first single, “Bird Walk”, breaks into a catchy party beat with an ominous under-vibe, setting the energy levels high, early on in “iSouljaBoyTellEm”. Soulja Boy opens the dance single with repeated shouts of “Watch me hit my bird walk” throughout before boasting “Step inside the club fresh from head to toe, hit my bird walk and then I messin’ wit my merry-go.”
“Kiss Me Thru The Phone” tones the adrenaline down, with a mushy track featuring leading vocals from Sammie. It has some cool, if not redeeming, synths from serial hit producer Jim Jonsin. “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” opens with a deep bass beat before romantic vibes accompany Sammie’s opening, as he sings “Baby you know that I miss you, I wanna get with you tonight, but I cannot babygirl”. He adds “I just wanna kiss you, but I can’t right now so baby kiss me thru the phone”. Later, Suolja Boy pours out his heart with “All that, everyday I need you and every time I see you my feelings get deeper; I miss ya, I miss ya, I really wanna kiss you but I can’t…”
“Yamaha Mama” ups the tempo again with a bouncy beat brought to us by producer Polow Da Don. Soulja Boy is joined by Sean Kingston on the track, who adds some classy vocal performance to the medley, as they relate the qualities embodied by a Yamaha motorbike to a girl. Soulja Boy opens up bullishly “It’s Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em, I’m back (back), girl I know you like it like that (that)” before analogizing “A Yamaha girl, a rider, shawty know she got that fire”.
Sean Kingston’s entrance changes up the tempo and pitch, as he opens singing “From the east, to the west; scream for me if you’re my number one lady; take a lead from the rest, you can go fast, speed it up for me baby” and later “All the girls cross the world, put the key in the ignition and just ride…Come on get in this G4, we can fly real slow to the sky…..”.
The track “Gucci Bandanna” brings the tempo down again with drowsy flows from guests Gucci Mane and Shawty Lo over a lulling and hypnotic rhythm. Repetitions of “Gucci Bandanna, Gucci, Gucci Bandanna” sound out from Soulja Boy’s opening on the hook, before the track opens into materialistic and hedonistic glorifications, lead by Soulja Boy’s first verse entrance “I got so much snow, Gucci head to toe”, and closing “This is the good life, Gucci Bandanna just to make me look tight”.
