I’m A Hoodstar - Sean Paul

October 10, 2008 | Author: John Paz

Sean Paul sticks to the hood formula and brings yet another street anthem to the table. The YoungBloodz rapper (not to be confused with the “Temperature” Sean Paul) has all the ingredients for a ghetto fabulous pie: rims, diamonds in his chain, dime pieces, standin’ on the corner, dressed in all black, and oh yeah, money.

The ATL rapper does not say anything original and in most cases fails to even connect his rhymes appropriately. He really pushes the limits on stretching his vowels with his southern twang.

I mean, “Back in 99, was worth a cool mil/now my my mil is plural, it’s been ten yurs (years).” It’s like he’s not even trying. It gets to me when rappers today think that they can just throw a couple hood tag words on a track and get away with it.

Sean Paul has never been a very sophisticated rapper, but now it seems like he’s becoming unoriginal also. Just Google “Hoodstar” and see how many other people in the game have made the exact same titled song talking about the same thing.

Production on this is solid though, it’s thumpin’ music that’s for sure. And Sean Paul’s voice and original rapping style make it bearable to listen to. The chorus is by far the best part of this single, and it will having you singing “I’m A Hoodstar” along with Sean Paul.

But when you really take time to listen to this song, the lyrics just seem to be hidden with a lot of dramatic accents and an over-bearing beat.
