I Run - Slim Thug

December 14, 2008 | Author: Rhydian H.M.

“I Run” is the first single off southern rapper Slim Thug’s sophomore album “Boss Of All Bosses”, set to be released in early 2009 and marks his comeback after a three year absence since his debut studio album “Already Platinum” (2005).

“I Run” was sampled from “I Ran (So Far Away)” by A Flock of Seagulls, re-synthesized and touched with a strong beat by producer Jim Jonsin.

Backed by that cool harmony of sounds, Slim Thugs wants to reassure us that he’s still got the flow since his last album, as he insists “Aint dropped in 3 years, but I’m back”, while stressing his continued dominance of H-Town in the hook “I run the streets all night n’ day (the hood love thug), cuz I still run the streets all night n’ day”.

With lyrical aplomb, Slim Thugs doesn’t just claim he’s back, he shows it, dropping “They don’t make too many n*ggas like me, bona fide hustler, certified G”, as well as “All night getin’ it on till 6 in the morn, the sh*t I’m smokin’ on, stronger than cologne”. And with economical awareness, he states “hard times got the whole United States stressin’, I’m writin’ a book, how to survive in a recession.

“I Run” was released on December 12 (listen to it here) and with the classy backing sound from Jim Jonsin, Slim Thugs has re-announced himself to the mainstream in a style set to gain new admirers while restoring faith in his fans from before.

After listening to “I Run” and reading this review, are you (still) a Slim Thug fan?
