Gutta - Ace Hood (DJ Khaled Presents)
November 20, 2008 | Author: Rhydian H.M.
“Gutta” is the debut album of southern rapper Ace Hood, who burst onto the scene with the release “Cash Flow” (featuring T-Pain and Rick Ross). The album is released with DJ Khaled’s label We The Best Music and Def Jam and features a number of artists such as Akon, T-Pain, Trick Daddy amongst others and a plethora of producers, such as J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, The Runners, Cool & Dre to name a but a few.
Ace Hood’s debut album presents a collection of energetic party beats and is generally based around the lucrative theme of money, through which he demonstrates several moments of skillful flow over the beats with his lyrics. The content isn’t the most revolutionary, as Ace focuses more on the adeptness of his tongue twisting, as exemplified in the track “Get Em Up”.
“Can’t Stop”, featuring Akon to provide a contrasting slower vocal input, is all about the continuous, unstoppable flow of money, a theme shared by track single “Cash Flow” already mentioned as well as “Gutta” throughout the album.
“Stressin’”, featuring Piles, tells a story about the pressure of getting a girl pregnant with an unwanted baby, and the ensuing troubles, legal and otherwise. It presents a different vibe; with an emotive and somber melody produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E League shining through for its excellent accord with the subject.
Ride (Remix), a remix of the second release, is a medley of instrumentals and flavors of genres between hip hop, R&B and possibly touching pop. It features Trey Songz, Rick Ross and Juelz Santana, with T-Pain writing the chorus, culminating in for a variety of vocals and sounds based on the subject romancing a girl. Ace Hood also gets more romantic in “Call Me”, featuring Lloyd’s soft whispering vocals to give an extra dose of lust to the album.
In “Guns High”, Ace Hood is joined by R.City to combine one of the albums themes of money with the abundance of guns in circulation.
“Gutta” was released on November 18 with great backing from DJ Khaled, who considers Ace Hood to be a star of the future, and there are signs in this album that if he can make his content and themes original, his obvious skill with the mic should enable him to shine through to make that a reality.
