Fire - B-Real (feat. Damian Jr. Gong Marley)

January 15, 2009 | Author: Rhydian H.M.

“Fire” is the first release from Californian rapper B-Real’s debut solo album “Smoke and Mirrors”, due to be released on February 24 with Audio Hustlaz and Duck Down Records.

The single was produced by B-Real himself and features Damian Marley, the youngest son of reggae legend Bob Marley. Mexican and Afro-Cuban by parentage, B-Real is best known as the lead rapper in the Latino hip hop group Cypress Hill, whose last album was “Till Death Do Us Part” (2004).

“Fire” turns the “fuego” on with B-Real delivering hot flow, as he seeks to show that he hasn’t left it too long to go solo after nearly two decades of releases in Cypress Hill. B-Real opens on the first verse burning through the competition with “Straight up, we set the fire, we blaze em’ n’ do it properly; sonically all we need is the honesty and the Cali beat”.

Keeping up the standard, Damian Marley adds dynamic rhyming with clever lyrical symbolism that ties the rhythm of the single together in the chorus, toasting “Analog or digitally, spiritual or physically, metaphor or literally, industry or lyrically”.

B-Real goes on to spit some Spanish lyrics for variety and with Damian Marley giving you a taste of Jamaican vocals, the single’s exotic and light beat completes a fiesta of sounds.

“Fire” was released on January 6 on iTunes (check it out here), setting off B-Real’s first album in style, with a blend of Latino and Jamaican flavors that you wont want to extinguish for a while.
