Da REAList - Plies

December 19, 2008 | Author: Rhydian H.M.

Florida rapper Plies’ third album, “Da REAList”, comes six months after his hit sophomore album “Definition of Real”, which was released on June 10 of this year. Plies only collaborated with three guest artists on the album: Ashanti, Sean Garrett and Chris J.

“Da REAList” integrates two main approaches: one, when Plies teams up with R&B singers to deliver romantic and/or sexy editions and secondly, when he goes solo on the rougher concepts of the street life.

The most popular track “Put It On Ya” is the second single of the album and has currently reached No. 10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart. Plies and guest Chris J bring sexually proactive lyrics while they voice their desires to please and play with a women’s desires.

The pair offer a plethora of seductive proposals, with Chris J’s softer voice starting off the hook “Shorty I wanna know if you come over, if you don’t mind girl put your legs over my shoulders” before being flirtatious and saying “Can I lick it, can I stick it, can I touch it, can I grab it; baby tell me can I have it”.

Timing his introduction, Plies opens his flow, rhyming “Let’s ride around the city, make love in the car; let’s get on express way, let me tease you ma” prior to building an innuendo-filled analogy with “Let grade you, give you a report card, your first test is, can you get it hard” continuing “Give you a A+ if you don’t stop, this a big test, you looking kinda shocked”.

In “Want It, Need It”, Plies tandems cohesively with Ashanti to play out sexual partners lustfully teasing each others desire for the other, as they achieve harmony with a sensual beat. Ashanti takes the hook and opening, singing “Oh boy I think of you on two occasions: that’s when I want it (that’s when I want it), that’s when I need it (that’s when I need it)”. Plies responds, rhyming with “I think it so cute how you use me; whenever you want sex, I’m who you come see” and “When she think bout’ me, she get so wet; every time she want it, she send me a text”.

In “Me And My Goons”, Plies leaves behind the playful provocation for the serious business of the lethal street mentality. With chillingly vicious concepts and menacing beat, spits over a menacing beat, opening the hook “I keep a couple killers ’round me when I move cause don’t really f**k wit’ a lot of these dudes” before elaborating “Couple killers on my right, couple killers on my left, but I am a m*therf**kin’ killer myself”.

Continuing the street life focus, “Pants Hang Low”, the first single on the album (which reached No. 11 on the U.S Billboard Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart), expresses Plies’ support for wearing pants below the belt line as symbolic of the “hood”, while “F**k U Gon’ Do Bout It” takes a cantankerous stance against disapproval of disorderliness with odd trance vibe backing.

“Da REAList” was released on December 16 (check it out here) without any time to catch your breath since his previous album release; however, this latest LP will take no time to move up your playlist with a number of cool, playful vibes and affective lyrics.
