Curtis - 50 Cent
August 15, 2008 | Author: John Paz
50 Cents latest chapter in his thug chronicles, Curtis, should probably be renamed (again) after his flavored water, Formula 50. Catchy hooks, high-priced collaborations and battle raps on nearly every song. I would say this guy needs to switch up his style, maybe try to refocus the subject of his music, but why? 50 is doing what he does best, being gangsta.
If you’re bored and want to check out his album, here is a fun challenge for you, let the whole album play and you follow along with a drinking game; one shot for every time 50 talks about a gun or messing someone up. Just make sure you don’t have something to do in the morning time.
This album would have been great if it were not for 50’s previous albums, which can all give you the same effect as Curtis. Where is the progression? You still talkin’ about money, drugs, and girls 50? Didn’t you cover that already?
But there is one thing Curtis Jackson also does well, he knows how to pick who he works with. “Technology (Ayo)” featuring Justin Timberlake is a sensational song. The contrast with 50’s thuggish style gives the man a sliver of diversity on this album, right between “I’ll Still Kill” and “Fully Loaded Clip.” Hope you’ve got a designated driver.
50 does make some catchy songs though, like the Dre-produced, west-coast crip-walkin’ track “Straight To The Bank” where most of the hook goes “ha-ha-ha-haa ha ha ha-ha-haa.” The numbers don’t lie also, Curtis was bought by over two million people worldwide. So Formula 50 does actually work, it produces numbers, but it’s not memorable.

I still can’t believe that 50 Cent thought he could out perform Kanye West. What a joke! I mean he had a few good ones and all, but come on, Kanye kept it fresh now.
