Back To the Hip Hop - K.O. & OD Hunte

“Back to The Hip Hop” is a new E.P. by producer/songwriter OD Hunte with 18 year old Swiss rapper K.O. The E.P. is a sample of the album from the pair due to be out in 2009.

OD Hunte, who previously collaborated on “Ten Days Till” and the commercial track “Get Them Hands Hi”, combines with Geneva born K.O to compile a list of tracks ranging in style. The teenage rapper, who likes to be self-expressive, rapping from his thoughts and experiences in life, cites one of his many influences as storyteller Lupe Fiasco.

The first track “Blow Up”, whose beats were originally planned for recording by Ludacris, brings a commercial sound to excite the dance floor. In “Blow Up” K.O. is boastful, predicting “I’m bout’ to blow up”, confidently asserting “I’ve got another banger from OD” and “I get you’ hyped man every time I type raps”.

“The Art”, mixes an old school hip hop beat with lyrics promoting the value of Hip Hop and the work of the pair, as K.O. raps “This is art, this is creativity…we use our music, we paint so vividly.”

The track “Be Like This”, has an instrumentally rich beat as K.O.’s life takes centre stage, rapping biographically about the changes in his life since he started to have hit records as he raps “I started recordin’, developed my skills….back then, I wasn’t even thinkin’ of a record deal” and now “everybody feels my hits”.

In “I Gotta Go”, K.O. tells of the need to leave home and the journey to a new beginning and is recorded on top of a funky, energetic beat.

The “Back to the Hip Hop” track list provides a fresh mix, as OD Bunte says “we give you a party joint ‘Blow Up’, an autobiographical joint ‘Be This Way’, a factual joint ‘The Art’ and a story joint ‘I Gotta Go’. The E.P is due to be released on December 1, and for those who like hip hop for the musical merits rather than for who the artist is, this should be an instant pleasure.
