Jay-Z Still Fly On Single “Girl’s Best Friend”

Last night I decided to chill for a second, and since it’s been a long week, I thought I would go old school and pull out a Martin Lawrence film. Now not just any Martin Lawrence film mind you, but one of my personal favorites – Blue Streak.

For those of you who still haven’t seen it, Blue Streak was a 1999 action comedy movie directed by Les Mayfield that stars Martin Lawrence and his partner Luke Wilson. Upon its release, it became the number one movie in North America and went on to gross over $60 million at the box office.

Ok, so that’s all very cool information. But what does this have to do with hip hop?

It’s the soundtrack. In addition to the movie becoming very successful, its soundtrack went on to become certified platinum. I mean how can you ignore such an amazing album when it features artists such as Jay-Z, Ja Rule, and Tyrese, just to name a few?

The albums lead single “Girl’s Best Friend”, performed by Jay-Z, is my absolute favorite. It’s beat is so infectious that it definitely sets up the mood for a party. Other hits include “Rock Ice” (by the Hot Boys & The Big Tymers), a sweet up-tempo track that I love to blast while cruising the streets, and “Criminal Mind” (by Heavy D. & Tyrese), a somewhat slower track, but one that sets up the theme of the movie.

I’ve included “Girl’s Best Friend below”, but if you haven’t checked out this album yet, you can listen to it here. Trust me, it’s a mix of hip hop and R&B that is well worth your time checking out (no matter how old this album is).
