Interview With Yung B Da Producer
January 7, 2009 | Author: OfficiallyHipHop
What other artists have you worked with?
Yung B: I just love working with J.Nolan because he gets da job done and there is no drama behind it. We are family and know what’s wack and what’s not [and] we’re brutally honest with each other and with ourselves. I’m trying to get something done wit Max B…and Ness from “Da Band”. I hit artists up but [many] pass on my talent. These are the same people who complain where music is at and how wack it is but not trying to make a change. So I’m fine with working with Nolan forever.
What’s been some of your most memorable experiences?
Yung B: Me, J.Nolan, and my other group producer Mac Morrison, used to go to a radio station in Atlanta called HOT 107.9 and every Saturday we would take our mixtape up. I actually made a beat for their Gangsta Grillz Radio Show and we would be there and wait for it to be over just to pass our joints to them.
I also met Don Cannon, who was the coolest cat I ever meet who was famous. Us being in 12th grade at the time, just wanted to get heard, not even signed, but respected for our grind and Don Cannon would talk to us every Saturday we came up there. The first time we met him, we gave him a CD and he said he would listen to it. I thought he was lying but the next morning round eleven or twelve he called J.Nolan and told him the CD was nice and keep bringing more material. I really appreciate him for taking the time out for us…and hopefully in the future, we will cross paths and work together.
What are some of your goals as a producer?
Yung B: My goals are to continue to produce great music and maybe do movie scores and video game scores. I would love to hear my beats on a T.V. screen or video game. I want to be a Mozart, not just a kid from Jersey. It’s…wherever God leads me, is where I will go.
Some say hip hop is dead and that artists “just ain’t doin’ it right”. With the work you’ve produced so far, and the artists that you listen to in your free time, do you think this is really the case?
Yung B: Absolutely everybody’s complaining “Hip Hop Is Dead” and I agree. Most everything is sub-par and nobody wants to have work ethic. I remember in my era of true hip hop that going Gold was treated like nothing…Platinum, even Diamond was the object. Now n****s can be lucky to even go Gold or sell 200,000 records. It’s horrible. Like I said, everybody complains but nobody wants to change it and people like Nas and Jay-z and Kanye, who I respect, have the opportunity to change it. The music game is wack now and I’d rather be independent [and] doing my own thing. I told Nolan let’s make our on genre of music [laughs].
What are you currently working on? Is there anything for our readers to look forward to?
Yung B: Yes, actually I’m working on beats and might drop an instrumental CD. Hopefully me and Nolan can work on another project in another direction and make anotha classic such as “The Up-Bringing 2.0″. I just want to work with talented people.
