Interview With Yung B Da Producer
January 7, 2009 | Author: OfficiallyHipHop
Having a nice recording studio is everything to many producers and artists. What kind of equipment do you use when producing?
Yung B: I have Fl Studio 4.0 and Acid Pro which is what I chop my samples on. It sounds kinda strange, but I actually don’t have a lot of equipment. People hear my beats at beat competitions or just over the Internet and think that I use [a lot of] equipment. I’m very digital. I’ve Been using Fl Studio 4.0 since I was 13 years old and I never changed or updated because that’s what works for me. The newer versions are too technical and I’m too busy and semi lazy to figure how they actually work. I don’t even go Crate Diggin for Vinyl as much because everything I need I can find online.
If you were to choose your favorite part of producing, what would it be and why?
Yung B: Laying the drums down and doing an ill beat break. Producing some days is hard to where I have made beats in 5 minutes and some days I need a classic from out of nowhere and I might not come back until 2 hours later or the next day. I have made 11 beats in one day which is my record so far.
When mixing together a song, how do you know what sound you want to go for?
Yung B: I learned from producing for 7 years now that I might want a certain sound at this moment and most likely I’m going to have to be patient and wait til I get the sound. Whatever sound comes out is what I take and run with. I never need just one sound, so any sound is something I can use and make a classic with.
Currently you are in a group called Manifest with your cousin J.Nolan (whom we interviewed previously). How did this group originate?
Yung B: Well I had just moved from Jersey to Atlanta where me and my cousin Jamar went to school together in like 11th grade and we actually had a class together. It was mad funny because me and him are jokers. We would talk about our teacher in front of her and make the class laugh and then turn the class into a “lyrical cipher session”. He told me that he was in this group named Manifest. He never knew I made beats, so one day I had a CD player and he asked me what I was listening to and I said Yung B Da Producer. He was like who’s that, and I was like me. He listened to the joints and said the joints were crazy. I told him I would produce him an album and pass it out at the school. I produced the album and somewhere in there I wrote a verse for a song called “Ladder to Success”. It turned out good and I didn’t get asked in the group, I was just in there and til this day we never discussed how weird it was that all the sudden I just was in the group [laughs].
You recently produced J.Nolan’s twelfth mixtape “The Up-Bringing 2.0″. How long did it take to make?
Yung B: I think it was like a month. We had been talking ’bout it for about close to a year because we dropped “The Up-Bringing” in 2007, which was a six track Myspace special for the fans. We had the track “Soul Brother Pt 1″ and it didn’t get the buzz it deserved and I felt we couldn’t let that get slept on so hard, so we had to come back with another J.Nolan and Yung B exclusive.

Yeah! I’m glad you guys decided to interview Yung B, he definitely deserves more credit for creating our sound. Congrats B!
No problem J.Nolan. We enjoyed interviewing both of you guys and we can’t wait to see where you end up as artists and producers. Best of luck!
Dope interview of the homie Yung B.
