Why ‘Tha Carter III’ Was Top Successful Album of 2008

December 22, 2008 | Author: Mark

As an album, Tha Carter III is exceptionally polished, and surprisingly consistent given the number of different artists and producers that appear on it. Personally, I love that vocal effects are becoming more popular, and the autotune software, when combined with Wayne’s “unique” voice and lyrical style, makes his style perfect. I know it’s not to everybody’s liking, and I know it’s been done a thousand times before, but I think artists should experiment and change things up every once and a while, rather than following a set formula.

The singles from the album have sold well, with “Lollipop”, “A Milli” and “Got Money” making it into the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and “Mrs. Officer” reaching within the top 20. That’s a very impressive feat indeed, especially for a rap album.

All in all, it’s been an interesting year for Lil Wayne, who has 8 Grammy nominations, a world music award, 7 BET Hip-hop awards, MTV Europe “Artists Choice” award, and a host of nominations in other events, categories and so on.  I’m not one to get excited over awards usually, but when you’re picking up as many nominations as “Tha Carter III” has, (even if some of those awards, such as the BET Hip Hop “Best Ringtone 2008” aren’t the most prestigious and glorious trinkets in music), it really has to signify that you’re doing something right.
